Luo Tong has been producing and directing documentary content since 2002. She has been the driving force behind a number of successful independent films, including A Farewell Song (2007), The Poseidon Project (2013) and A City Sets Sail (2022). Her directorial debut, Shanghai Girls, was completed in 2022.
She produced the acclaimed and award-winning documentary The Six (2021) which tells the story of the Chinese survivors of RMS Titanic. Executive produced by Oscar winner James Cameron, The Six picked up prizes at major festivals, including Vancouver International Film Festival, Beijing International Film Festival and the Chinese Academy Awards For Documentary Film. It has been distributed in multiple territories, with positive reviews in The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and The Guardian.
She is the founder of LP Films, one of Shanghai’s leading documentary production houses, working with partners including APTN, BBC, ITV, NPR, Discovery Channel and NatGeo.
Her film works as a producer include A Farewell Song (winner of Special Jury Prize for Documentary, 2007 Syracuse International Film Festival) and The Poseidon Project. She produced and directed the short film Finding Bunny Girl (winner of Guangnian Prize at 2013 Beijing Short Film Festival), and the web series High Spirits (2014), which was distributed via Youku, Tencent and iQIYI. In 2017, she returned to short film as producer of The Killing Game, which screened at several international festivals and won a selection of awards. She is currently producer on The Six (2019), an eagerly anticipated documentary about Titanic’s Chinese passengers.
