Director Biography - Bhasker Vishwanathan

Bhasker Vishwanathan has been involved in movies for over ten years. He took part in feature film "Bhor" directed by "Kamakhya Narayan Singh, a National Award winner director". Bhasker served as the movie's assistant director and co-writer. Other than that, he assisted Sudhanshu Sharma in "Love All", starring Kay Kay Menon. Later, he worked with Kamakhya Narayan Singh on his "#Article35A" documentary, which focused on the human rights problems in Jammu and Kashmir.
Bhasker participated in the second iteration of Creative Minds of Tomorrow, put on by NFDC and Shorts Tv, and was chosen in the screenwriting category for his piece "Main Azad Hoon." The major jury for screenplay was Prasoon Joshi, and Bhasker's script, "Almost," earned a spot in the top 5 movies that has been produced by NFDC and been creened at the 53rd edition of IFFI (Goa), in 2022. where seasoned filmmaker Maniratnam watched all the movies and praised Bhasker's writing talent. The movie is accessible on the Shorts Tv channel of Amazon Prime.
"Freedom Fighter," his first short film as writer-director, premiered at the 28th Kolkata International Film Festival in 2022, with Tina Bhatiya playing the major role. His newest film, "Behrupiya," starring "Devesh Ranjan," is currently being edited and will soon be screened at film festivals. Bhasker is collaborating with his team to produce a couple more independent shorts and films. In addition to directing and creating scripts, Bhasker is passionate about poetry.

The reason why Bhasker was motivated to relate the story of "Freedom Fighter" was due to the persistence of restrictive gender roles and patriarchal norms in modern society. Even in educated families, there can be a tendency to limit the freedom and opportunities of daughters in the name of maintaining social status and adhering to tradition.

This theme of gender inequality and the struggle for personal freedom is a pervasive issue in many cultures, and Bhasker's story seeks to shed light on its continued relevance in contemporary society. By depicting a strong, independent female protagonist who fights for her rights and dreams despite societal limitations, the story serves as a commentary on the need for progress towards gender equality and the importance of personal agency and self-determination.

In essence, Bhasker's motivation for sharing the story of "Freedom Fighter" was to inspire reflection and dialogue around issues of gender inequality and personal freedom, in the hope of promoting greater understanding and progress towards a more equitable and just society.
