Submission of film indicates applicant's full intention to exhibit at the Fort Smith International Film Festival if selected for programming. As such, filmmaker waives the right to withdraw their film from the Fort Smith International Film Festival at any time for any reason.

Filmmakers who submit via Secure Online Screener should be prepared to send the Festival a copy of their film if it is accepted. Blu-ray disc is the Festival's exhibition format but standard definition DVD is an acceptable alternative. Backup discs are highly recommended, especially for standard definition DVDs. Subject to prior notification sent to the Festival, filmmakers may also send a .mov or .mp4 data file via storage device or electronic file transfer.

Each filmmaker is responsible for providing a working copy of any accepted film by the deadlines provided. Failure to do so means the Festival cannot include the film in its lineup, so the film’s status changes to “Not Accepted.” Films are considered “Accepted” only after a copy of the film has been received and successfully tested. Discs damaged during shipping, file shares that fail to download or that encounter frame rate or other technical problems, and discs that are lost in the mail all are examples of films that can miss the deadline. For these and other reasons, the Festival advises filmmakers to burn and test their own Blu-ray discs, securely package them inside boxes and/or inside secure disc cases, then ship them well before the deadline via courier with a tracking number.

To facilitate the promotion of selected films, the Festival requests that submissions include an electronic press kit via Dropbox or other FTP sites or through FilmFreeway’s website. The EPK should not come on a disc. The EPK should include the following:

  • This was the very first film festival I'd ever attended, let alone had anything accepted into (an animated short, "Nightlife"), and it couldn't have been a better experience. Everyone involved, from the volunteers to the regional filmmakers, were incredibly kind and welcoming. And though I only managed to see a handful of the accepted films (in the animation and experimental/comedy categories), if all were as quality and imaginative as those, then the entire festival was packed with hidden gems and gold.

    Thank you Fort Smith Int'l, from a first-time animator/filmmaker.

  • I was impressed by the Fort Smith International Film Festival. They're new, but they're ambitious. The festival staff worked hard to get press for my film and to promote the festival. The hospitality was quite nice and the venue is awesome. Interesting mix of local and international programming with something for everyone.

  • It has been very gratifying that they have selected my documentary The Evolution of a Style. The festival has a surprising format and organization. Although I couldn't attend, the communication and sharing the festival on the internet made me feel very close to it, thank you.

As a disabled filmmaker, this film festival was excellent at providing accommodations, being inclusive, and very welcoming. No matter if you are a filmmaker or film lover, you will be guaranteed to feel at home. All staff, volunteers, and filmmakers are humble and kind. This film festival is very promising for the growth of filmmaking in Arkansas :)
