Fine Dried Noodles

The film is themed by the traditional handmade hollow fine dried noodles in Wubu County of Northern Shaanxi. It tells the story about the three generations “making fine dried noodles and inheriting the handicraft” under diversified historical destinations and uncommon experiences with the manufacture skill of hollow fine dried noodles for thousand of years behind the unique dietary culture. The industrious and intelligent people in Zhangjiashan get rid of poverty and become prosperous by virtue of this skill.

It presents the unique natural landscape, customs and habit as well as human relationships in Northern Shaanxi from multi-angle. It also reproduces the human beauty of simplicity and fortitude in Northern Shaanxi.

Director Biography - Shan Shi（山石）

Director: Shan Shi, with former name of Zhang Jing, whose hometown is Jiaxian County, has a master degree. He was born in 1971, and successively attended Suide Normal School, Shannxi Normal University and Peking University. He is also a senior media person, planner, poet and photographer, and won the national prizes for his works in literature, photography and film and television. He published the collection of poems - Centurial Vagabondage, photography wall calendar themed by North of Shaanxi and Great River etc., also planned and shot the documentary film The Master of the Journalists Zhangjiluan, Du Bincheng, and the film Fine Dried Noodles.

Director Statement

This film shows the manufacture skill of handmade fine dried noodles in Zhangjiashan of Wubu County from the public view and explains the teaching process of the skill through the story, thus arousing the aesthetic interests of the audiences. Besides, it is also endowed with the human kindness and regional characteristics through profound local flavor, simple narrative style, artistic and exquisite visual effect. Meanwhile, the episodic story structure and the performance measures of North Shaanxi Folk Song and monologue story-telling vest the film with diversified artistic value.

This film applies the film language and the artistic methods of space-time alternation and fictitious and realistic comparison to present the human beauty, poetic beauty, plot beauty and music beauty, so that the audiences can appreciate the local customs and practices of Wubu County as well as the unique charm of fine dried noodles.
